Pregnant and Parenting Students

The University of Northern Iowa supports the academic success of all students. Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972 prohibits discrimination based on sex, this includes discrimination against pregnant and parenting students.

Students may request accommodations as a result of pregnancy, childbirth, or related conditions. Accommodations will vary from student to student. Accommodations may include:

  • Excusing absences due to pregnancy, or related conditions
  • Flexible deadlines for work submissions
  • Rescheduling tests and exams
  • Providing larger desks or chairs
  • Providing alternatives to make up missed work.

To request accommodations, students should contact Student Accessibility Services and employees should contact HRS.
